Goodness, is it Friday already? The time, where has it all gone?? Answers, I want answers!!
Dearest Friends, it has been something of a hectic, fluxy week. Deadlines at work, commitments outside of work, busy busy busy weekend ahead, trying to chew all that we have bitten off.
On balance, the week, it went well. A few wobbly bits, but only minor tremors. At least methinks they're minor. We'll keep the seismograph on, just in case.
Anyway, upon returning home from work this afternoon, I espied our Dearest Gina the Dawg, lying most comfortably and serenely on the sofa, head on paws.
And I decided to have a quiet night in. With others around, but by myself. Perhaps selfish, but if Gina can do it...
The Stooges - I Wanna Be Your Dog (buy here )
If you check out only one song, make it the Drugstore track. It's lovely and low-key and all awash in fuzzy guitar.

Gina Dog,
Its been ages since I heard your bark - we must get together on Skype soon. And if the FiL has sorted out a webcam we'll be able to see you! Hope you're having a good weekend - I'm over having dinner with Uncle D and S who saw you just a few weeks ago.
So, a tickle of your tummy and a firm grip on your lead.
Your Uncle Tim
Quiet nights are always appreciated! I had one, too, until 9pm when I had to watch the season opener of "Battlestar Gallactica" with hubby. Oh yes, I'm a geek!!
LOVE that Calexico song!
And if you want to hear a darn good podcast (and pretty short), might I recommend to you An Ode To CBGB's presented by my podcasting pal, Andrew. He plays some brillian 70's music (you know, that era you said is lacking in good music!) I think you'd enjoy it!
I forgot the link...

Hi Fil,
I hope you enjoyed your quiet night in. :)
I'm having one now, I guess. Just me and the ceiling fan. The keyboard.
I love the picture of your dog. She's cute. Looks sad in a sweet way.
I hope more balance comes to you in the week ahead.
Happy Sunday,
Love,
~ Ash
You're a fuzzy guitar...
Solitary Party Groover was quite lovely and fuzzy indeed. Thanks for the recommendation. Hope you got the long over due quiet time, you have been quite the energizer bunny (that is the second reference I have made to that bunny in the last 2 days) How odd...
I think it is time for some necessary sleep for this armadillo...
Hopefully I will get off my bum and submit for the Podcast before it is too late...:)
Thank you so much for your birthday wishes on my blog.
I hope you are having a lovely shagadelic Thanksgiving weekend. :-)
Best wishes to you and your whole family.
hey, happy thanksgiving day to you. forgive my cultural ignorance, but just how do canadians celebrate the day?
Well, I don't know how FiL's family celebrates it out on the coast (I believe it has something to do with carving a totem out there), but here in mainland Canada, the Thanksgiving season traditionally involves families building the first igloo of the season. The whole extended family gets involved in carving out the ice blocks and pasting them together with maple syrup. Afterwards, the whole family huddles in to sing traditional songs, such as the words to Hockey Night in Canada. Some very patriotic families also have the tradition of building an ice sculpture of Canada's first Prime Minister, Ernie Coombs.
...no, if I keep going like this, you'll think me snotty rather than self-effacing. Canadians celebrate thanksgiving the same way as Americans but less energetically. There's lots of turkey, but we're just copying what we see on TV so it isn't as strong a tradition, but it varies from family to family.
(sorry to answer for you FiL, but couldn't resist the gag opportunity.)
Hey Fil!!!!
Haen't listened to that drugstore song in ages. Thanks for the reminder. Been meaning to post one of their b-sides but can't find the single that it was on. Think my brother may have half-inched it!
I keep trying to get a restful day/night but it just isn't happening for me. Need sleep and rest - then maybe this darn cold will shift.
Happy Thanksgiving, Fil!
I hope you and your family are well. :)
mentok--i appreciate the answer, whether it be from you or mr. fil!.
Oh my, apologies for the silence, but things have been hectic round our way...
Dearest Tim: Indeed, Gina misses you and your domination something fierce. We must sort out this Skype thing soon!
Dearest Nats: We'v been meaning to get into BG but have been unable to find the time. I think we need to arrange for a night or three in to watch the backstories, then pick up the current series! And thanks for the p'cast referral!
Dearest Ash: Yes, Gina's a sweetie. She predates the kids and is actually pushing 10 years in age - a stately old age for dogs! I think she was more worried than sad - she does fret quite a bit, hence her Shakesperian nickname of "Fretful Porpentine" (Hamlet, Act 1, Scene V). And balance? Not just yet, but it'll come... And thank you for the Thanksgiving wishes! Oh, and I'm rather fond of ceiling fans myself. Very underrated, they are.
Dearest mjrc: Thanks for the wishes! As a recent immigrant, I'm largely ignorant of the holiday's origins, but my observations square with Mentok's description: it seems to be celebrated much as in the US -turkey and all- but it's not quite such a big deal as south of the border. And no department store parades... ;)
Dearest Mentok: No need to apologize at all- indeed, you're far more qualified to answer than I am! However, we actually held a potlatch...
Dearest Coxon: So nice to hear from you! Yes, I know how this lack o' sleep thing works all too well - hope you find respite.
If you're interested, the BG website has a catch-up video called "the 44 minute recap".
They also have a thing called "the 3 minute recap", but it's pretty confusing given that they're trying to squish in 30 hours.
