Alternate Reality

Dearest Friends, I have managed to escape! Yes, through subterfuge and guile I managed to flee the clutches of Alternate FiL and his easy listening ways. First I stunned him with a blast of Ministry then, while he was clutching his Neil Sedakas, I pulled his polo shirt over his head, and scarpered.**

Don't know what I'm talking about? Then have a listen to this week's Contrast Podcast, which presents a parallell universe populated by alternate versions of songs. You know, performed by the original artists, but in a different stylee than the original. You can download the episode here, or subscribe using the following RSS feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/ContrastPodcast

Right, let's get ready to skew our ears:

Crash from Pretending life is like a song

I was originally going to submit the Sugarcubes's Icelandic version of "Birthday," but I deferred to Tom's "Hot Meat" (ooer missus, fnarr fnarr). But also in contention was the following alternate "Clay" version of Nine Inch Nails's "Head Like A Hole." It's also highly appropriate in light of my current sleep-deprived state...

NIN - Head Like A Hole (Clay Version) (buy here)

** That's one explanation for my scarcity this week. The alternate one blames it on a very hectic, tiring work week spent tooling around the Lower Mainland from meeting to meeting, making a presentation that I really did not feel prepared to make, and talking business over three very delicious dinners here, here, and here. I don't know which version is real - you decide what to believe. I'm off to bed...

So there are two of you, huh? ;)

I hope you both have a great weekend!

I'm sorry you had such a hectic week.

Take care, Pilot FiL. :)

FiL

I had missed this week's Podcast Contrast. Honest. I haven't had the time to even look and see what is on it, far less take an hour or so to listen

So I didn't rip-off the fact that you chose that Suede song before my posting yesterday. Please believe me.

I read a review of the Sugarcubes's charity reunion thingy in last month's Mojo, and apparently it was quite fantastic and everyone is clamoring for a tour.

I think it would be pretty wonderful to hear a crowd full of people my age singing "Birthday" in Icelandic.

And, I also think it would be pretty wonderful if we could come up with some clever name for the alternate FiL. But I'm lacking at the moment.

Dearest Ash: Alternate FiL isn't me per se. He's like what Bizzaro is to Superman. Maybe an AntiFiL. And once again, you know you've got a lifetime First Class pass!!

Dearest Tim: Thank you, and I will! I grow weak with anticipation...

Dearest JC: Oh, please fret not! It's delicious that our musical streams of thought intersected so. Even Idolator got on the Suede bandwagon this week - WE ARE THE TRENDSETTERS!!!!!

Dearest KittenLizLips: Yes, I could see a Sugarcubes reunion work. They were grand the one time I did see them - much better than cod. As for Alternate FiL, I'm hoping he's gone to ground. But I fear tremendously waking up one day to find that I am him...
